As 2020 begins we look forward to the partnership opportunities presented by our emerging relationship with the AFMA (Alberta Farmer’s Market Association) and the AFFPA (Alberta Farm Fresh Producers Association).
We have learned that many Market, Food Bank partnerships exist already. Through deep engagement we will identify and share best practices for food banks because we know there is a keen interest. The goal is to partner farmers’ markets with the closest food banks as many food banks now can accept more fresh food. Waste will be reduced and more people will have access to these beautiful products. We are inspired by the many relationships that exist already and look forward to helping more develop.
In February, the AFMA and AFFPA will join forces to host the FARM to MARKET to TABLE conference. Food Bank FRESH Alberta team members will be on hand to share information on this province wide initiative. We are honoured to have the opportunity to speak at the conference.
Food Bank FRESH Alberta is excited to work with the AFMA, AFFPA and their members. Because growers and producers can access all 95 food banks in Alberta through this project, we hope to see increased fresh food donations. These donations will provide variety and most importantly, fueling, nutritious foods to individuals and families requiring short term food bank help.
